After a post he made about the late rapper Mac Miller was poorly received, GoldLink has made an effort to clarify his statements. He talked about the post at a recent concert stop in Germany.

Fans continue to criticize GoldLink for his Mac Miller remarks

GoldLink is still facing backlash for a controversial post he made about Mac Miller, in which he seemed to insinuate that Miller copied his music.

The post, which at the time of publishing remained on his Instagram, reads in part, “I’d be lying if I said I was surprised to hear that you died on us. Not because you were necessarily troubled, but because you were special and because of that, you were troubled. At your peak, you were the archetypal rapper all of us wanted to be; which was independent. But also just a kid with really bright eyes about life. I’ll keep it short because I want to continue our conversation for when it’s my time to go. But I think what made you and I special is that we weren’t always on the best terms. “

GoldLink addresses the backlash at a concert

At a concert on Wednesday night, GoldLink attempted to clarify his post about Miller, calling him his “best friend.” The concert took place in Hamburg, Germany.

“Without Mac Miller, there would be no GoldLink. I’mma be a sacrifice for everybody in this f**in’ s**t right now. You say whatever the f**k you want … you say it, however, the fuck you want it. You don’t have to explain yourself to no-motherf**kin’-body…we ain’t worried about n***as that we don’t know.”

He continued, “The whole post I that made about Mac Miller was about love and that n***as can actually be brothers. It wasn’t about stealing. I never used the word copy. I never used the word steal. The thing is, Mac Miller wrote all of Divine Feminine. That was a great album. The fact that he made a n***a a cake was one of the most heartwarming shits when you’re a young n***a in the game. What rapper makes other rappers cakes? That’s some cute boyfriend-girlfriend s**t we was doing…That’s one of the realest n***as I ever met. So I don’t give a f**k what nobody say about it.”

GoldLink also spoke about the Grammy nominations

Before the Mac Miller post and the controversy that ensued, GoldLink wrote a post on Instagram about how artists like DaBaby and Burna Boy were not nominated for Best New Artist. This post was mostly well-received by fans and music listeners on social media.

However, at the same concert at which she clarified his Mac Miller post, he also seemingly threw shade at seeing other rappers getting Grammy nominations. Some rappers who got Grammy nominations this year include Meek Mill, 21 Savage, and YBN Cordae.

One fan said, “Cuh just dissed mac Miller who’s been dead for over a year now he doin this? Fool realized how irrelevant he is and started goin crazy.” Another said, “You ain’t got to put another man down to get ahead. What he’s doing is weak! He not trash but not good enough to be talking like that. Not even close.”

For those artists who are nominated, you can tune in to see if they win on Jan. 26, 2020.
