According to the Globe, the Friends star is set to follow in the footsteps of Tom Cruise and John Travolta as the next big A-lister to join the controversial religion. “Jen doesn’t understand why people are so anti-Scientology,” an anonymous insider tells the magazine. “She’s heard only good things about the positive effects it’s had on her non-famous friends. She’s been tempted to get involved over the years, but it was never possible due to various conflicts in her personal life. Now there’s no such drama to hold her back, and she’s ready to see what it’s all about.”
One of the “conflicts” supposedly holding her back was a 2015 anti-Scientology documentary produced by Louis Theroux, who’s a cousin of her ex, Justin Theroux. “Louis’ documentary meant Jen had to park any interest in Scientology until an appropriate time,” says the unknown source. “Now she’s ready for a new chapter in her life and Scientology is looking more and more appealing.”
The seemingly phony tipster adds, “Jen’s got an incredibly open mind and she’s interested to dip her toe in the water and see for herself what’s so attractive about Scientology to so many people. She’s intrigued to see where it takes her.”
The tabloid’s article is based on the word of an unidentified source, but Aniston’s own spokesperson is going on the record to dismiss it as “absurd.” The actress’s rep, who’s qualified to speak on her behalf, confirms she has no intention of joining Scientology.
It should be noted, the Globe seems to be fixated on the religion and various stars joining it. Earlier this year, the outlet wrongly reported that Cruise was recruiting Top Gun: Maverick co-stars Miles Teller and Glenn Powell for Scientology. Gossip Cop debunked that story, as well as another one the magazine wrote last year about Cruise recruiting Barbra Streisand for Scientology. This time around, the tabloid didn’t include the Mission: Impossible star in the recruitment process, but the article is no more accurate.
Here’s yet another reason not to trust the Globe: Back in March, the publication insisted Aniston had eloped with Brad Pitt in Mexico. As Gossip Cop noted at the time, the ex-spouses aren’t back together, let alone married again. The tabloid has zero insight into any aspect of the actress’s personal life, including her religious views.
