Married at First Sight alum Jamie Otis, who’s currently expecting her second child, has revealed the results of her recent colposcopy show she could possibly have cancerous tissue.
Jamie took to Instagram on Wednesday and posted a long explanation about her health scare.
“I went to the doc and heard my pap was bad & I have HPV,” Jamie, 33, captioned a sweet family photo of husband Doug Hehner, their daughter Henley Grace and herself.
“Although it sounds like an STD and I should freak the F out, I know this is somewhat common and not to be overly worried about. I was scheduled to have a colposcopy just to take a better look at the skin cells in my vagina. Also, not really a big deal as long as the doc doesn’t see dysplasia…if she does then it could be a sign of early cancer… [or] it could be absolutely nothing.”
Jamie — who is now 17 weeks pregnant — said at the time she had the colposcopy, she “didn’t know whether to worry or not.”
“Buuut, I got the call today saying that my doc did see dysplasia & since I’m pregnant we will have to wait to biopsy my cervix until after I have the baby,” Jamie revealed in her post.
The former Season 16 The Bachelor contestant went on to admit her head has been “all over the place” since finding out this news.
“Thoughts go from ‘I’m sure I’m fine. I had this with Gracie too.’ But then I can’t help but wonder, ‘What if?!'” Jamie continued in her post.
“I’ve had two friends reach out to me. One was like, ‘Oh, you’ll be fine. So many friends had this.’ Another said, ‘I may have to have a hysterectomy after they found that in me bc I have actual cancer now.'”
“So I just have to wait until after I have the baby to really know what’s going on inside me,” Jamie noted, “but I’m just putting the positive vibes out there & praying & being so THANKFUL for my health.”
Jamie said her current situation has made her think about all the women out there who find out they have potentially life-threatening conditions while expecting.
“I couldn’t help but think about all the women who are pregnant and find out super scary news like they actually do have cancer or a fatal disease and they’re left with the tough decision: treat yourself while pregnant to save your life but risk losing the baby OR take your chances and postpone treatment to save your baby,” Jamie shared.
“I cannot even imagine having to make that decision. My heart goes out to those mamas. If you’re one of them, I’m sending you SO MUCH LOVE.”
Jamie and Doug, who got married on Season 1 of Married at First Sight in 2014 and welcomed Henley, now 2, into the world in August 2017, announced in September 2019 that Jamie is pregnant with a sibling for their daughter.
The pair revealed in late November they have a baby boy on the way.
The fact Jamie and Doug are expecting a boy is special because it had been an ongoing struggle for the couple to get pregnant. Prior to Henley’s arrival, Jamie delivered a son, Johnathan, at 17 weeks in 2016.
After Henley was born, Jamie experienced a miscarriage shortly after conception was detected about one year ago, and then in January 2019, Jamie disclosed she had lost another baby at 10 weeks, according to E! News.
Jamie and Doug’s baby boy is expected to arrive in May 2020, and then they’ll probably start trying for another child as soon as possible.
Jamie recently told Us Weekly she and Doug would love to have a lot of kids, at least four.
But Jamie said if she can’t give birth to more children herself, she’d definitely be open to adopting.
Following their stint on Married at First Sight, Jamie and Doug co-starred on Married at First Sight: The First Year, a spinoff which continued to follow the two MAFS Season 1 couples who opted to remain together during their first year of marriage.
Jamie and Doug also later starred on Married at First Sight: Jamie and Doug Plus One, their own spinoff which premiered in December 2017.
Jamie currently serves as the host of Married at First Sight: Unfiltered, the show’s post-episode discussion show that also airs on Lifetime.
Jamie and Doug additionally appeared on Married at First Sight: Couples Couch, which featured former MAFS couples offering commentary on encore broadcasts of the show’s ninth-season episodes, this past summer.
