Ibrahim Mustapha, a fake medical doctor has been sentenced to 54 years imprisonment for practising medicine without a certificate.
A high court sitting in Yola, the capital of Adamawa gave the ruling through Judge, Justice Nathan Musa following Mustapha’s admission of guilt in the 9 count charge levelled against him.
According to Justice Nathan, the verdict was in contemplation of Mustapha lawyers plea.
“On the first, second and third counts, I sentenced him to six months each with an option of N20,000 fine,” the judge ruled.
“On the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh counts, I sentenced him to ten years incarceration on each of the counts with no option of fine”.
“On the eight count, I sentenced him to three years incarceration with an option of N50,000 fine,” the judge ruled.
The Department of State Services (DSS) exhibited Mustapha who functioned as the Principal Medical Director of Fufore Cottage Hospital in Adamawa State over allegations of practising with fake certificates.
Bola Olori, who is the director of DSS in Adamawa referenced that Mustapha didnt study medicine but has the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) certificate.
Furthermore, he said that Mustapha was so good with the impersonation act that no one suspected he was a fake.
He worked as a ward attendant in Gombe where he was assisted by a practising doctor.
In a chat with journalist, Mustapha admitted that he conducted numerous surgeries but vehemently denied the death of any patient.
“I did many surgeries, more than 500, which were very successful. Equally, I am proud that I know what I’m doing and as far as surgery is concerned, I don’t have any death,” Mustapha said.
The governor of Adamawa, Ahmadu Finitri, while responding to the apprehension of Ibrahim Mustapha, told newsmen that his regime will be setting up a committee to checkmate fake medical practitioners within the state in a bid to sanitize the health sector.
