The British Royal Family is in the center of the spotlight these days. From the mega-popular, Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton to the struggles of Duchess Meghan Markle and Prince Harry — the royals haven’t gotten this much attention in decades.
In fact, the senior royals are trying to navigate one of the biggest scandals to come out of their family in quite some time. Prince Andrew, Queen Elizabeth, and Prince Philip’s second son has effectively been de-royaled. The Duke of York has been removed from his royal duties following the death of financier and sex offender Jeffery Epstein. The prince was friends with the American businessman for two decades –even following his arrest and imprisonment for soliciting a minor.
There has been a ton of frenzy surrounding the royals and Prince Andrew, but one voice that has been noticeably silent is the outspoke Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Philip has been retired from royal life since August 2017. However, he’s all but vanished since then.
Prince Philip has had some serious health issues in the last few years
After 65 years of service in the British Royal Family that included 22,219 solo engagements and over 700 organizations and charities — Prince Philip officially retired from public life on August 2, 2017. At age 98, the prince has been dealing with several health issues in recent years.
Just two months before the prince announced his retirement, he was hospitalized with a serious infection. A royal spokesperson revealed in a statement, “The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London last night, as a precautionary measure, for treatment of an infection arising from a pre-existing condition.”
Since then, the duke has had a hip replacement and has gotten into a car accident. Obviously this is rather concerning considering his advanced age.
Prince Philip has a major say in his family
Though Queen Elizabeth is the Crowned Queen, Prince Philip has been known for taking charge of the royal family’s personal affairs. An insider once told The Daily Beast, “He rules the Royal family with a rod of iron.”
Therefore, we know that the Duke of Ednierbegh has a strong opinion about the ousting of Prince Andrew and how the Sussexes are handling royal life. However, the prince has retreated to Sandrgium Estate in Norfolk while the queen remains in London during the week. “I’m sure it’s been good for his health not to be there getting involved in the day-to-day stresses and strains but I think the queen has missed his hands-on approach to family matters,” a royal source explained.
The prince’s absence is also concerning royal fans. Many fear his health may have taken a turn for the worse.
This is the last time Prince Philip was seen in public
No one outside of the British royal family has seen a glimpse of the prince since May 2019 when he attended, Lady Gabriella Windsor’s royal wedding at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.
At the time, the duke appeared to be in good spirits. However, there are rumors that he’s been suffering from poor health this winter. “A few weeks ago Philip had a bit of a wobble and hasn’t felt so energetic,” an insider told The Sun. “He has been living quietly at Sandringham, where he spends most of his time reading and pottering about. Until recently he has been very active — carriage riding, fishing at Balmoral and driving around royal estates — although he no longer drives on public roads following his crash in January.”
In the lead up to Christmas, another royal insider told Express U.K., “Prince Philip has not been very well recently.” We hope he feels better soon.
